Upcoming Away Competitions

Traveling to competitions is a fun part of the ballroom team experience. Every year, our team encourages its members to attend away competitions by offering subsidies to members in order to help them afford the expense of the competition. Not only is it a great way for our team members to meet people from other schools and network with them, but it also fosters team relations throughout the Midwest. Below is a list of Annual competitions we send our team members to each year. The dates of these competitions can also be found on our calendar.

  • Location: Purdue University Memorial Union, 101 N. Grant St, West Lafayette, IN.

  • Take advantage of this well known competition to prepare for the Ohio Star Ball and get to know the dancers from Purdue as well as the rest of the schools in the midwest! Highly recommended for Newcomers and team members of all levels.
  • Lodging: Overnight crash space provided by the Purdue team.

OHIO STAR BALL CHAMPIONSHIPS    National Collegiate DanceSport Challenge 

  • November 16-21, 2010 
  • Location: Greater Columbus Convention Center, 350 N High St, Columbus, OH 43215

  • Directions from Ann Arbor
  • More commonly known as the Ohio Star Ball, this is our biggest competition of the fall semester! Compete with teams all over the U.S. for the national collegiate title, bond with your teammates, and watch first-hand the recording of the PBS Ballroom Challenge show.

   Valparaiso University Ballroom Competition

  • Location:  Harre Union, 1700 Chapel Dr, Valparaiso, IN 46383
  • Directions from Ann Arbor
  • This competition has only been getting better year after year. The competition coming up in 2011 will be Valparaiso's 3rd annual competition. We encourage you to attend in order to sharpen your dancing skills as well as strengthen the bond with the many teams that you met at OSB.

  • Join your friends on the dance floor at the 21st Annual Ohio State Dancesport Classic. There will be a pre-competition social, including practice time, performances from local professionals, and early registration the night before the competition.

New Member Registration Begin: Sep 1,2010 Ends: Nov 23,2010

 Thank you for your interest in our team. We are thrilled to have you join! You can sign up online now, or show up at any of our practice venues or events and register there.

Early registration is available only until September 18th! Join now at the special price, or later for $60.  

Once you are a member of the team, you will enjoy the following privileges:

  1. Newcomer lessons every Saturday at the CCRB, taught by our professional coaches Steve and Susan McFerran and assisted by upper-level team members.
  2. Open Dance every Sunday at the Union hosted by the Ballroom Dance Club at the University of Michigan. The club also offers three lessons every Sunday afternoon that our team members get admittance to.
  3. Practice opportunities and lessons every Monday-Thursday at Dance Theatre Studio (DTS), which is a conveniently located studio on Central Campus. Mondays and Thursdays, upper-level team members hold lessons for newcomers. Tuesday and Wednesday are used for personalized instruction and practice times.
  4. Scholarship opportunities, as well as subsidization for major ballroom competitions throughout the year.

Finally, you'll have friends, networks, and dancing skills that last a lifetime. And much, much more.

Once you become a member to our team you'll also get a CD with the best music from all the dances you'll be learning, and a membership card.

Returning Member Early Registration Begin: Aug 23,2010 Ends: Sep 8,2010

To thank all the dancers that have committed to stay with our team, we are implementing an early registration discount for returning members. Team semester dues will be $50 until the early registration deadline of 11:59PM EST. After that, semester dues will return to $60.

*Please note - early registration is for returning members only. To qualify as a returning member, you must have danced at least one semester on the team in the prior school year (2009-2010). The link below will take you through paypal.
