FALL RECRUITMENT HAS BEGUN! FREE Welcome Week Lessons!
What's better than free dance lessons? During the recruitment season our team gives away 5 free Latin and Ballroom dance lessons to get you moving. We teach at least two dances each Welcome Week event (including the Cha Cha, Swing, Salsa/Mambo, Foxtrot, Tango), and at the CCRB on Saturdays our world-class professional coaches Steve and Susan McFerran teach 3 dances in 2 hours. The free events alone will teach you a TON of ballroom dancing skills that will last a lifetime. We encourage everyone to come and check us out. No partner or experience necessary!
The UMBDT summer lesson schedule includes weekly general lessons and A/B lessons. Please contact us at ballroom-exec@umich.edu to inquire about the specific lesson dates/times for the upcoming week.
For practice times, you can also view the team calendar on the right.
Hey Ballroom Dancers!
It's the end of the semester which means it's time to celebrate another great year on the UM Ballroom Dance Team!
For those of you new to the team, this party is just a fun time to kick back with everyone on the team by enjoying some wonderful food, games, and of course - dancing. On top of all this, we will also have our TEAM ELECTIONS
As for the food, we host a potluck style dinner. Thus, everyone should bring a dish! We split dishes up by team:
A-Team: Main Dishes (pasta, meat dishes, vegetarian main dishes, etc)
B-Team: Side Dishes (cassaroles, salads, potatoes, etc)
C-Team: Desserts (cookies, cakes, etc)
Pre-C Team: Drinks and Chips (pop, juice, pretzels, tortillas, etc)
Beginners: Anything you want!
Please email me (dlian@umich.edu) ASAP with the dish you'll be bringing so we don't have an overload of the same dish! Also, if you would like to bring something outside of your category, feel free to do so, just let me know!
Thanks for all your help, I look forward to seeing you all at the party!
Each person will also be given the opportunity to write a brief platform about themselves and their goals, which will be posted on the website once nominations close. Speeches and elections will take place at the end of semester party (more details will be released shortly!)
After the team's latest championship victory at the National Collegiate Championships last November, American Dancer Magazine decided to run an article highlighting the Wolverines' experiences at the NCC's. The article also describes the team's social atmosphere, drivers of success, and community involvement. We would like to thank Ivor Lee of American Dancer Magazine for this wonderful publication. Click here to view the article (flip to page 44-45). *please note we are the Ballroom Dance Team, not the Club
The Michigan Daily recently ran a feature on UMBDT. With interview excerpts from the team president, coaches, and some members, the feature explained the fundamental structure of UMBDT and contained coverage of the 10th Annual Michigan Ballroom Dance Competition. To read the article, you can access it here.
Winter Recruitment for 2010 has arrived! We encourage all new and interested members to browse through our "New Members" section, and please contact us with any questions.
We highly encourage you to just come to our events, get to know some team members, and start learning how to dance right away!
Over the winter vacation we made some changes to the website and lost all photo media. Please bear with us as we re-upload images throughout the website. Some content may be missing.
Hello Team Members,
Uofmballroom.com now has an upgraded photo gallery. These images are exclusively on uofmballroom.com and do not exist on facebook.
You may view these albums by clicking Media Photographs.
A special thanks goes to Mark Swanson who has contributed significantly to the development of the media photograph section.

Hello fellow team members
OSB videos from a majority of the rounds are up on youtube.
Search "2009 OSB" and will return you about 200 videos or so.
Videos are here on yourtube
Tagging isn't quite working yet so videos are limited on this website.
Thank you very much,
Vincent
Congratulations to everyone who went to the Ohio Star Ball this year and helped our team defeat 51 opposing schools. Every couple and every callback helped us accumulate the points we needed to win the Championship again!
Steve & Susan are incredibly proud of everyone. The way we danced, exhibited team spirit, cheered one another on, and stayed until the end of the competition really impressed a lot of USA Dance officials. As a consequence, USA Dance is planning on publishing an article about our team, its camaraderie, and our competitive successes in its next issue. The team is becoming more and more well-known, and its thanks to all of you for representing our organization with spirit and pride that we've cultivated such a great reputation within dancing communities around the U.S.
So once again, congratulations to everyone and a huge thank you to everyone who came to support our team
-Alex
President, Ballroom Dance Team
When the days lose hours and the weather turns sour, the UMBDT heads indoors for a fun night of ice skating at Yost Arena. Usually taking place mid-way through the Fall Semester, the Ice Skating Social offers everyone a much-needed break from long sessions of studying. Once again, we encourage new and interested members of the Ballroom Team to come and meet everyone! We pay for your admission. Bring your skates or $2 for rentals.
